In the words of Clifford Bleszinski, Design Director of Epic Games:
"Level Editors will become closer to high end modeling packages such as Lightwave or 3dstudio max, as real time scenes are approaching pre-rendered ones. ... Chances are, in-game editing tools will be at a similar level of complexity in the future.
There are basic 3d editing concepts that these programs are built upon that everyone should know, a designer should understand how to manipulate low polygon geometry as well as high polygon geometry."
That's exactly where Blender fits perfectly. Regardless of the game engine in use, Blender is highly customizable and adaptable to particular project needs. In "Blender for game artists, game art design" trainees will learn how to make artistic game design for games from sketch, game modding and machinima, how to make concept design, low-poly character & level design and reuse the existing game logic of YoFrankie! open source game. This course will use Blender as a multifunctional authoring tool for new game creation.
The ideal applicant should have some experience with 3D software. Art background and good drawing skills will be considered an advantage.
